Why You Should Consider Gluten-Free Snacks in the New Year

Now more than ever, people are becoming more aware of the ingredients they choose to put into their bodies. In turn, brands are responding by creating options for those who want or need to cut gluten, dairy, or other common allergens from their daily diet. Going gluten-free has risen in popularity, even for those who don’t medically require the dietary change. Whole Foods listed new types of flour as one of the biggest food trends they expect to see in 2020. Here are just a few reasons you might consider choosing gluten-free snacks in the new year.

1: You might not even know you have an allergy or sensitivity

Gluten is one of the top allergens, but because the reactions to eating it vary by person,  many don’t realize they have an aversion or sensitivity to gluten. Some of the top symptoms of gluten intolerance are bloating, abdominal pain, headaches, fatigue, skin issues, and depression. If you’re experiencing any of these, you might benefit from taking baby steps by eliminating gluten from your snacks to see how you feel.

2: Your gut health and digestion might improve

Gluten has been linked to inflammation and might be blocking your gut from absorbing minerals it needs. By limiting your intake, you could allow your gut to go back to getting the minerals it needs and give your digestion the chance to get back on the right track.

3: You can avoid lots of processed foods

So many of the foods that are high in gluten are also processed treats that are high in carbs, like pasta, or low in general nutritional value, such as many fried foods and desserts that are heavy in bread, like cake or cinnamon rolls. Switching to sweet snacks that are made with real ingredients, like Heavenly Hunks, allow you to indulge while still giving your body what it needs to process.

4: You’ll make room for higher quality fiber-rich foods

Most modern wheat products have no nutritional value, as we discussed above with many of the processed options. When you cut out the lower quality fiber-rich foods that contain gluten, you leave room for other fiber-filled foods with potentially better quality and more pure fiber in them. The higher the quality of ingredients you eat, the more energy you’re bound to have overall.

5: You have lots of delicious snacking options!

We’re partial to all of the ridiculously amazing flavors of our own Heavenly Hunks, but there are plenty of tasty options for gluten-free snacks that will excite your taste buds and your digestion. We’re loving other treats like cauliflower crackers, sweet potato chips, almond flour crackers, and crispy apple chips.
